What 90's Girl Culture Taught Us

Documentary filmmaker and photographer Lauren Greenfield showcased American girlhood within her latest photo book ‘Girl Culture’, discovering model’s, cheerleader’s and stripper’s never-ending desires for beauty, as well as their anxieties and insecurities about body image. Therefore Greenfield explored how media had been pushing girl’s deep wishes of being thinner, taller and more popular over a 5-year period.

Today fortunately, this trend has changed a lot from the motive of perfection to the desire of being authentic and true to our own bodies and believes. So here is to all the girls that fought with themselves: Good bye 90’s heroin chic, hello self-love!
